chihuahua dog foodConsidering their picky appetite, you may wonder what could be the best dog food for Chihuahuas. Their picky nature makes it hard for most dog owners to decide a suitable commercial dog food brand for them.

For people who like a dog that can live long, a Chihuahua is a wise pick as it is healthy too.

However, they may be prone to illness especially if they lack the right balance of nutrients in their food. It is therefore vital to feed them a properly balanced diet to prevent them from being overweight or getting malnourished.

This article will look at what Chihuahua dietary requirements, best dog food for them and how to choose the best food for them.

Best Dog Food Brands For Chihuahuas

What Is A Chihuahua?

About Chihuahua:   A Chihuahua is a tiny dog believed to be of Mexican origin with wide and big ears being its best-known features. The ears are always erect and relatively large as compared to its small head and body. The dog has a petite and fragile appearance and loves to give and receive attention. If satisfied, this unique dog breed can be quite affectionate and loyal companion dog.

Appearance:   An adult Chihuahua weighs 4 to 6 pounds and ideally stands not more than 9 inches. You can get a Chihuahua with either a smooth or long coat which are all equal. The tail is long and full and feathering on the feet and legs is normal. They boast talon-like feet with long, curved nails. They have an easy-to-care coat which can be found in almost any color. Note that it’s common behavior for Chihuahua to shiver when nervous, excited or in the cold.

Temperament:   No one can tell how a Chihuahua turns out as that is mostly dependent on the generic temperament of the parents. It’s therefore important to be careful when choosing a Chihuahua that does not show bad temperament. However, with good training and socialization, you can overcome the bad genes in your dog.

Trainability:   The ease of training a Chihuahua is partly dependent on the dog itself. As mentioned above, how this dog breed turns out depends on the dog’s bloodline. If he has high struck parents, then it may be difficult to train him. There should be consistent training as well as plenty of reinforcements and plenty of treats. You, therefore, need to avoid (by all means) using a harsh hand when training a Chihuahua.

Nutritional Requirements for Chihuahuas

Just like with all other dogs, properly feeding your Chihuahua is essential for building muscle, organs, and bones. Here are important nutrients to include in a Chihuahua’s diet:

Protein

Nutritional Requirements for ChihuahuasA suitable dog diet must include proteins. Proteins enhance the building of muscles and help repair old body tissues. While most dog foods include sufficient protein, vitamins, fats, and minerals, the amount of each nutrient may vary from brand to brand.

Therefore, experts recommend that you go for a food brand that has at least 25% of protein, but the ideal protein amount in a Chihuahua diet should be at least 35% protein. This is important to enhance its overall physical growth. Make sure that the protein in his diet comes from high-quality lean meat sources such as fish, bison, chicken, turkey, and venison. You can also go for lamb and beef meat ingredients.

Protein sourced from meat by-products or bone is not a suitable meal for a Chihuahua and could be harmful. This may be the lowest form of proteins as it may come from slaughtered animals and road kills which may come with diseases.

Fats

Omega Fatty Acids For ChihuahuasA majority of dogs specifically the energetic and quirky types like a Chihuahua require enough fats in their diet as a source of energy. AAFCO recommends that the minimum fat content requirement for a Chihuahua should be 10%, but ideally it may rise up to 25%.

Apart from energy, fats in his diet will help maintain a shiny and healthy coat and is also essential for their general health. It’s however, important to choose the good fats as these will not cause obesity to a dog. Essential fatty acids such as Omega 3 and 6 aid in regulating the cholesterol levels and enhance the immune system.

Carbohydrates

healthy carbs sources for ChihuahuasCarbs are essentially energy sources, and there is no minimum required level of carbs for dogs. It’s however, advisable that they should be of high quality such as the ones in barley, brown rice, oatmeal and even sweet potatoes. Carbohydrates from good sources help to promote good digestion for Fido and may help keep him safe from food-related allergies.

Since Chihuahua has a tiny stomach, you may avoid giving him wheat-based carbohydrates as well as corn and soy as they may be difficult to digest. These are low-quality grains, and some brands use them as fillers; they may result in food allergies for your Chihuahua.

Vitamins and Minerals

Nutritional Vitamins and Minerals for ChihuahuasHigh-quality dog foods contain sufficient amounts of minerals and vitamins. The essential nutrients are essential for Chihuahuas as they keep their coat healthy. They also act as immune boosters and may help prevent anemia and other diseases.

Vitamins A and E are rich antioxidants and help enhance your dog eye and skin health. An excellent source of these vitamins is the animal liver. Foods containing antioxidants are extremely beneficial for toy breeds as these are known to live longer than most other breeds. Antioxidants help them fight free radicals, and this can help keep them in superb shape.

Additionally, milk and eggs act as good sources of calcium which will help strengthen your dog’s bones and teeth. It also aids in maintaining a regular heartbeat.

On the other hand, you may offer your dog green beans, sweet potatoes, broccoli and pumpkin as these contain essential nutrients that may enhance their growth.

Water

water for chihuahuasWater is undoubtedly the most important part of any dog’s meal. Your Chihuahua will enjoy its benefits including proper digestion and nutrient absorption. Therefore, ensure that you keep a bowl of fresh and clean water to keep him in good shape.

Experts recommend at least 4 ounces of water per day, but this may depend on weight. Basically, for every pound of their weight, I ounce of water is needed. Note that water requirement is based on the dog’s energy and activity levels. Ensure that water is always available for them as dehydration can prove costly in dogs.

They may experience abnormal body temperatures which is life-threatening. Water is also vital in converting energy from carbs and proteins. Water also helps get rid of toxins as these may lead to other health problems such as kidney stones and organ failure.

Recommended Calories Requirements of Chihuahuas

Calories Requirements of ChihuahuasBeing an energetic dog, a Chihuahua needs high levels of calories to support his lifestyle. A typical adult Chihuahua needs about 240 calories in his daily diet. For older Chihuahuas, however, 160 calories per day is enough as they are less active compared to puppies and adults. Take note that an adult dog of this breed eats in relation to body size, activity and metabolism levels.

  • Adult Chihuahua- 160 calories
  • Typical adult Chihuahua- 200 calories
  • Active Chihuahua- 325 calories

It’s however, important to consult your vet when making any significant changes in your dog’s diet.

In general, a Chihuahua needs 40 calories for every pound of their weight which is a higher requirement than in many other dogs as Chihuahuas need insane amounts of energy.

You don’t require exercising your Chihuahua too much, but you may need to monitor their diet as they tend to overeat and hence may become obese. Indoor games and other activities are enough to keep them fit.

Chihuahua Feeding Schedule

Chihuahua Food Feeding ScheduleTo ensure that your Chihuahua does not become overweight, you have to feed them based on their age and how active they are. You should do this following specific food amounts as follows;

For puppies that are four weeks of age and below, the best food with all the nutrients and antioxidants required is the mother’s milk. This is mainly because it is easy for them to digest and process.

For any young puppy past four weeks of age, manufactured dog food for puppies is best recommended. The feeding should be on a schedule of say 4-5 meals throughout the day.

Well, most Chihuahua puppies are known to suffer from low blood sugar levels, a case that is dangerous and fatal if not managed. Ensuring that they are fed 4-5 evened out meals throughout the day is an excellent way of stabilizing their sugar level.

Manufactured dog food for puppies are in smaller sizes and easily fit in their small mouths without too much struggle.

Unlike Chihuahua puppies, the adult Chihuahua should have 2-3 evened out meals throughout the day.

Chihuahua Common Health Problems

Some Chihuahua owners prefer going for cheaper food options instead of the premium dog food only to save a few expenses. A Chihuahua’s health is largely dependent on the diet they feed on and therefore a low-quality food may mean future health problems and hence more expenses to treat the problem.

However, this dog breed, just like any other breed has a set of health problems. Among the most common health issues of Chihuahuas include:

Food allergies

Most dog breeds suffer from food allergies. While it may be as a result of diet change, Chihuahuas may just develop a food allergy without any change in diet. It’s worth noting that an allergy may take time to develop and in dogs it may come as a result of high grain content such as wheat.

The symptoms may come in the form of recurrent ear infections, itchy skin and hair loss. If you think that a certain food is the cause of an allergy, it’s advisable that you do a food trial. If you are lucky to identify the cause of the allergy, the ideal long-term solution is to eliminate the food from his diet completely.

Obesity

For dogs that can easily add weight and become obese, proper feeding is vital. Obesity may result in dangerous health issues such as low blood pressure, joint injuries, and diabetes.  While Chihuahuas do burn calories more rapidly compared to other breeds, their nutritional requirements change due to the change in activity levels as they get older. It’s important to know when your dog is overeating in relation to its activity level.

Avoid offering them too much treats as most treats are made with too much sugar, fat and milk ingredients which may cause obesity.  You should follow a strict meal schedule to avoid overfeeding them. Remember that proper nutrition will not only keep them looking fit and healthy but will also prolong their lifespan.

Tooth Infection

The soft nature of teeth of a Chihuahua makes them prone to decay and infection. The dog may experience pain and discomfort and may shed weight. If left untreated the infection may pave the way for other infection that may affect other body organs such as the heart and lung.

There are certain dog toys and dental-specific treatments that help loosen the plaque, but these are not sufficient to clean your dog’s teeth in a proper way. The ideal ways include professional scrapping and brushing which prevent tooth decay and infection. Ensure that you offer training on good oral hygiene your Chihuahua as early as possible.

Other common health conditions in Chihuahuas include:

  • Hypoglycemia- a medical condition where blood sugar decreases rapidly.
  • Retina Dysplasia- This is an eye infection that specifically affects the retina.
  • Legg-Perthes Disease- A condition in the hip joint where there is improper blood circulation.
  • Collapsed Trachea- A condition where the trachea collapses and flattens out.
  • Kneecap dislocation

How to Do Healthy Homemade Dog Food For Chihuahuas

Over the past few years, there have been numerous news stories on toxic dog foods and recalls of particular ingredients. You may also be aware that some dog food manufacturers may claim to use healthy ingredients but use unfit ingredients.

For some dog owners who know most commercial dog foods contain intestines, blood, and other waste parts, they may decide to offer them muscle meats.

The best part with homemade dog food is it does not contain harmful additives.

With a balanced recipe, your Chihuahua will not only enjoy but also will have a shinier coat, fewer allergies, and more energy. It’s also good to learn that most homemade dog food must include healthy supplements to work best.

Here are 2 classic balanced homemade recipes to try out for your Chihuahua:

  Doggies Stew

Boil 3lbs. Lean chopped chicken, hamburger or any other meat in 6 cups of water.

When the meat is ready, remove it from the water and boil 4 cups of rice in the same water. You may add some water if insufficient. Puree 1 cup peas, green beans or other vegetable and add a cup of yellow vegetables such as carrots. You can now mix all the ingredients.

Note that you need to add a multivitamin or other supplement to make this a complete nutrition.

Ask the vet before adding the supplement. You can make this in larger quantities to use it in future.

  Raw food

Raw foods are beneficial for dogs as they’ve not undergone processing. They may help your Chihuahua avoid allegories and are easier to digest.

You can make raw food for Chihuahua using 1 oz. of a liver, 2.5 oz. Chicken, 1.2 oz. Bone meal, and any blended green vegetable such as green beans. Chop the meat into small pieces and mix with the vegetables then add a ½ tablespoon of canola oil.

You can make this in large quantities and freeze for future use.

Best Dog Food For Chihuahuas – Buyer’s Guide

Choosing the right food for your Chihuahua can be a daunting task because Chihuahuas have very specific nutritional needs.

Unfortunately, most commercial dog foods sold fail to offer enough nutrients for healthy development.
If you are not careful enough, you may introduce your Chihuahua into a whole world of health issues. The last thing you want is a dog with a rough coat, oral problems, weak immune system, obesity, food allergies and other side effects associated with feeding him the wrong food.

Here are ingredients to look for when choosing dog food for your Chihuahua:

Protein   A good dog food must contain a couple of meat proteins which should be both whole meat and meat meals. Whole meats contain too much moisture while meat meals contain less moisture. Most companies use meat meals, but if you spot a byproduct in the list, you should ask questions. Ensure that the protein content is above 24%.

Essential Fats   Due to their active nature, Chihuahuas need a good fat source. Go for named fat sources such as chicken fat. Look for the presence of omega fatty acids as they help keep the skin and coat healthy. Fat should make up for at least 5% of the dog food.

Vegetables   To keep the immune system of your tiny friend strong, check the label to ensure the recipe includes them. You should avoid normal potatoes as these are fillers.

What to avoid when choosing a Chihuahua dog food:

To multiple pet stores offering dog foods, you need to be very careful on the food you purchase. Chihuahuas are very sensitive to low-quality food and is one of the breeds that cannot tolerate fillers.

When choosing a Chihuahua food to avoid the following ingredients;

  • Wheat
  • Corn
  • Artificial flavors and colors
  • Corn syrup
  • Animal fat
  • Filler products like potatoes and low-quality grains
  • Food Dyes
  • Preservatives
  • Gluten
  • Soy
Therefore, if a dog food contains any of the above ingredients, you should not buy it for your favorite friend. However, by checking on the reviews of the products, you can gain great value for your money.

At home, your Chihuahua should NOT consume:

  • Chocolates
  • Milk and other dairy products
  • Macadamia nuts
  • Raisins and grapes
  • Onions
  • Bones
  • Coffee
  • Avocado
  • Baking powder
If you notice any negative reaction such as vomiting, fever, tremors, lethargy, and diarrhoea, talk to your vet immediately.

Conclusion

It’s not always an easy task to choose the right dog food for your furry companion. With many pet food brands to choose from, you may not end up with the ideal option for the first time.

It’s the reason we have prepared a list of best dog food for Chihuahua based on users’ reviews and expert advice.

You can try them and determine which ones work best for your dog needs.

grain free pet food A grain seed comprises of bran which is the outer layer of the seed and is a good source of fiber. It also contains the endosperm which acts as a source of starch. The reproductive part of a grain is called the germ which is not only the germinating part of a seed but acts as a good source of micronutrients such as forlic acid, Vitamin E, Phosphorus, Magnesium among others.

Some grains may be higher in protein, some in fiber or others in autoxidizing agents.

The entire grain seed is what is referred to as a whole grain. And while all grains are nutritionally equal, the health benefits may be dependent on whether they have undergone processing or not.

Can Dogs Eat Grain?

is grain free dog food goodAfter the 2007 tragedy that happened in china where there was pet food contamination of wheat glutten, most dog owners’ watched as their dogs got ill and died. It’s since then that the grain based pet food lost popularity among pet owners. The pet food was contaminated with a false industrial chemical that cause kidney damage when ingested.

Despite the fact that we know that grain didn’t cause the hazard, it still remains that the food lost popularity at the exact time.
The most common grains used in dog food include:

  • Barley
  • Corn
  • Oats
  • Buckwheat
  • Rice
  • Quinoa

You know most of these grains because you probably consume them. Some like quinoa and barley are renowned super foods. Quinoa is rich in iron, protein and fiber and barley is high in soluble and insoluble fiber hence considered as super foods.

Do grains have the same benefits for dogs?

Well, whole grains like corn offer your dog with perfectly digestible nutrients such as Vitamin E, Protein, and linoleic acid. However, dogs are natural meat eaters which mean that whether the grains benefit them or not, that’s not their natural food. It’s, however, very important point to remember is that the food you choose for you dog is nutritionally balanced.

Do Grains Cause Allergy?

Just like with some people who are allergic to wheat (due to gluten), some dogs may have an allergic response. Most dog owners like to gravitate on diets with meat as the main ingredient and other few identifiable grains. This helps identifying which ingredients are perfect for your friend and drop those that have adverse reactions such as diarrhea.

Here are Top 5 allergy provoking ingredients in dogs

  • Beef
  • Dairy
  • Wheat
  • Chicken
  • Eggs

Some dogs may develop allergy as a result of storage mites. Several studies have showed that keeping dry dog food in non-sealed containers for more than 6 weeks may encourage the growth of storage mites.

They recommend that these mites can be prevented by keeping the food in dry and cool environment and in sealed containers. Additionally, avoid storing dry pet food for months and be sure to check whether an allergy is being caused by household dust mites.
If you suspect your dog suffers from a certain food allergy, you need to visit your vet and talk about the issue. A consistent professional treatment will help you determine the ingredient that causes allergy to your dog.

What Is Grain Free Dog Food?

What Is Grain Free Dog FoodGrain free means that the pet food has been made with no grains in the formula. While grain free options are loaded with wholesome ingredients such as eggs, fish, fruits and meat, feeding a grain free formula doesn’t mean that a dog will be healthier. Some foods simply contain use high starch carbohydrates like potatoes in place of grains. Based on nutrition, grains like quinoa and oats would be better options.

The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) in association with FDA sets the minimum standards for dog food with some of the requirements being 18% protein, 5% fat and necessary vitamins and minerals should be present.
Therefore, you can rest assured that grain free food is perfect for your dog.
What is gluten free dog food?

It’s important to know whether your pet needs a gluten free dog food. They are free of gluten but may or may not contain grains as an ingredient. Gluten is the protein that exists in certain grains such as barley, rye and wheat.

It’s however important to understand that gluten free foods may also be grain free. Grain free dog food is gluten free.
A dog that has allergy to grains will show the following symptoms:

  • Itchiness
  • Bald Patches
  • Excessive hair loss
  • Sore and scabs
  • Hot spots
  • Inflamed skin

Can Dogs eat gluten free food?

Unlike humans, dogs rarely suffer from celiac disease. Therefore, there’s no need to feed your pooch with a gluten free diet but there’s an exception. The Irish Setter breed is prone to congenital disease that results in an intolerance to the protein. This has only been seen is a smaller number of Irish Setters in the UK. Dogs suffering from this condition can benefit from a gluten free diet.

You can tell if your dog is sensitive to gluten if you notice these symptoms:

  • Chronic GI upset- Continuous diarrhea or constipation. Sometimes vomiting may occur
  • Dermatitis- This may show through dry and flaky skin, bumps, hair loss, redness, constant itching and rashes.
  • Chronic ear infection- This is due to excess sugar buildup in the system. A prolonged infection may lead to overgrowth of yeast which can cause smelly waxy debris in the dog’s ears.

Grain Free Dog Food History

Long before dog food was introduced as doggie dishes, dogs would hunt and capture raw meat as their meals. That’s why it is impossible to see wolves grazing peacefully in a field of flowers. Just like humans do with paleo diets, grain free dog foods are a way of mimicking the canine’s ancestral diet as a carnivore.

Today, there has been massive production of dog kibble. This largely began during the World War II where inexpensive fillers such as wheat and barley were added to food to lower the cost of dog food. Today, you will find most commercial dog foods listing wheat or corn as one of the chief ingredients.

But while dogs are were once wild animals that have evolved to internet celebrities, their digestion seems to be still primitive. Dogs lack enough digestive support to break down complex carbohydrates as well as cereal grains. These contain complex fibers which is hard to digest.  In fact, continued consumption of these can result in bowel inflammation disorders, food allergies and leaky gut among other disorders.

Grain Dog Food Vs. Grain Free Dog Food

Grains are inappropriate for dogs because dogs do not have a dietary requirement for carbohydrates.

A balanced dog’s diet should contain protein as the major ingredient along with moderate fat and very low in carbohydrates.
Most grain free dog food tends to cut down on protein and fat and swap it with carbohydrates. That’s why you need to check the label because some companies will still replace the grains with equal amount of starches such as peas and potatoes.  You want to choose a diet with higher protein content, perhaps 30% just to ensure a higher volume of meat in the diet.

Grain dog food may also contain gluten which may trigger sensitivities in dogs. It may also contain lectins, phytates and antinutrients . The grain inclusive foods are also more likely to be contaminated with Alfa toxins.

Video Comparison between Grains and Grain-Free Diets

Does Grain Free Mean Carb Free?

If you’re planning to offer grain free food to your dog as a way of lowering the carb intake then you are wrong. Most grain free dog foods have legumes and even potatoes as replacements for wheat or corn. Precisely, you may be increasing carb intake.

However, some carbs incorporated into grain free pet foods are better options compared to the usual grains’ carbs such as corn and wheat. The better carbs include sweet potatoes and garbanzo beans.

Dry grain free foods require starch as a binding agent to create the hard kibble for our dogs. Gluten or grain free wet dog food may contain more proteins than carbs which means they are better but may contain a prohibitive price. The high protein formulas can be complex for some dogs but prior consultation from the vet can make things easier. Large dog breeds and puppies may have different nutritional requirements.

What Are The Benefits Of Grain Free Dog Food?

In recent years, grain free diet has become the popular way to go and that is due to the numerous benefits the diet offers. Unlike other regular dog foods that have been stuffed with wheat, soy and corn, grain free dog food ensures that all these ingredients are not a part.

Instead, it’s rich in proteins, animal fats and meat and contains very low levels of carbs.
Here are the top benefits of grain free dog food:

Digestion – It has been biologically proven that dogs’ digestive systems find grains hard to digest. Luckily, the grain free food is made with more protein to make digestion easier as compared to diets with carbs.

Nutrition – Most pet brands stuff their products with fillers just to make production cheaper but that affects your dog’s nutrition. The products have less or no nutritional value as the main ingredient is carb. Conversely, grain free food is stocked with digestible fiber, healthy meat and fish protein as well as vegetables which offers your dog with a nutritionally balanced meal yet easy to digest.

Shiny Coat – A healthy dog has a smooth shiny coat and a grain free diet offers exactly that. Grains lack the proper oils and nutrients required for nourishment and maintenance of healthy skin and coat. A grain free dog food is rich in protein and omega 3 fats if the diet has fish. This results in a thick, shiny and healthy coat.

Energy – Do you want a strong dog? Protein is the major source of energy for dogs and a delicious grain free diet loaded with proteins is all you need to enhance your dog’s energy levels. Grain free dog food is even better if your dog is pregnant or lactating as it will replace the energy used in producing puppies and offers the puppies with nutrients.

Allergies – is your pooch prone to allergies? Well, switching to a grain free food may mean a change. Many dogs, like humans are allergic to wheat and corn which are common ingredients in grain inclusive foods. A grain free diet will prevent allergies caused by food.

Weight – If you need to control your dog’s weight, a grain free diet is what you need. Excessive amounts of carbs without enough exercise could result in weight gain. A grain free diet contains high vegetable and meat content and the only carbs included are less complex and very low in amount. The grain free dog food also keeps your pet fuller longer as compared to regular dog food which can also help in weight management.

Breath – for a friend you spend most of your time with, bad breath may be less pleasant. The good thing is that by eating grain free dog food, you can improve your dog’s breath. Nutrition is vital for dental health which is why a grain free diet may benefit your dog by preventing bad breath.

How to Choose Best Grain Free Dog Food

With so many brands producing grain free pet foods, you need to focus on what’s best for your pet. As with most traditional dog foods, you need to begin by choosing between wet and dry grain free dog foods.

Here are the points to consider when choosing the best grain free dog food:

  • The main ingredient should be a quality protein and not a carb.
  • Ensure there are healthy fatty acids to offer omega 3 and 6.
  • Use nutritious meat chunks and avoid the use of meat by products.
  • There should be wholesome vegetables and fruits to offer vitamins, minerals and trace elements.

You also need to know what other additives have been thrown in the grain free dog food recipes. Some brands use probiotics while others incorporate study proven antioxidants without any flavors.

Healthy Dog Food Brands Recommended by Vets

As a pet parent, there’s need to know the best dog food brands to enable you make the right pick. Of course you need to check the ingredients when choosing a dog food but you may want to know the brands names with high quality foods.

Here Is A Basic Criterion For Selecting Food For Your Dog:

Does the dog food meet the Standards of a balanced nutrition as per AAFCO?

The American Association of Feed Control Officials is a voluntary quality standard group that’s famous for setting standards for each stage of a pet’s life. In fact, a majority of commercial dog food companies make their foods as per the set standards by AAFCO. Another standard to use as you go by is FDA.

Therefore, remember to check any of the two on the bag of the dog food to see if the standard requirements are met.

How reputable is the dog food company?

Additionally, in this era of Salmonella contamination scares such as the 2007 tragedy in China, it’s hard to know what brands to trust in these days. Seemingly, all the food companies have had problems with contamination at some point and there’s always a chance that a dog food will be recalled.

However, that does not mean that you should stick to freshly prepared diets. There are some food companies that are a bit more concerned and have had fewer problems. They offer balanced nutrition with all the set standards in place. The good thing with noting them is you will shop by brand dog food to avoid disappointments.

Health Preparation

When you want to travel with your dog, health prep is a must.

The first thing is to understand the destination. Know more about check-in and pickup procedures and the exact location of the area. This will help you know where to drop off and pick up your pet. Remember to arrive early.

Additionally, before the extended trip, take your dog to the vet for a checkup and ensure that all his vaccinations are up to date. Be sure to get at least 3 copies of the records once your vet tests and confirms that the dog is ready for travel. You may need them during the trip.

You don’t want to face a shortage of your dog’s vital supplies like food and water. Therefore, bring along enough food and water with you to avoid hectic circumstances in your trip.

Make sure that you carry any medications that your pet may need.

Dog Crate

Dog Crate

Some people think bad about crating their dog, but your dog may not feel the same though. In fact, with the right orientation to the crate, your dog will feel safer there.

Dogs still retain some of the characteristics of their ancestors. Wild dogs would hide in shallow holes (dens), to hide from predators. Therefore, the crate is today’s version of a den and your pet may feel safer inside the private space.

However, when choosing a dog crate for your friend, there are some essential considerations that you should keep in mind such as material and size.

Materials

Plastic dog crates: these are made of a durable poly-blend with a well-crafted chrome plated steel bar door. The crate has ventilated side panels as well as a leak-proof bottom. They offer enough privacy and are approved for dog travel.

Travel dog crates: These have a sturdy and durable built and with excellent ventilation. These suit well for both airline and driving travels and boast great visibility.

Wire fog crates: These are secure with maximum ventilation and offer excellent portability. They are easy to clean because they provide a maximized open space.

Size

With different dog sizes available, dog crates have different sizes. The ideal crate for your dog based on size should be bigger enough to allow your dog to stand without ducking his head below his shoulders. It should offer enough space for him to lie down and stretch to his full length without a struggle.

The crate should be a bit restrictive, however, as dogs will be naturally clean in a restrictive place. If the crate is too big, he may relieve himself in one corner and go the other to sleep.

A good dog crate should be:

  1.  Large enough
  2.  Strong with handles and grips
  3.  Having leak free bottom with an absorbent material
  4.  With maximum ventilation
  5.  Dog tags, owner’s name, address and phone number available
  6.  Having a comfy mat and water bottle.

After choosing the best dog crate for your dog, it’s important to consider these tips for smooth dog training:

– It’s vital that you exercise your dog enough before he goes into the crate. This way, he will burn off his excess energy and will be more inclined to rest.

– The crate needs to be safe with nothing that can hurt your dog. While most people use leashes and collars, these may pose a strangling hazard to your dog.

– Keep in mind that the crate is not a prison but a safe space for your dog. Therefore, you need to start by showing the dog the crate and open the door. Let him sniff the crate and don’t push him inside. When he goes inside, you can close the door in a friendly manner and walk away with a friendly body language. Be happy and say something sweet as you leave.

– You may come back after 10 or 15 minutes to easy the separation anxiety. Don’t take him out yet, let him spend some more time inside and keep paying him visit until you think he’s ready to let him out.

Note: You may opt for crash bags inside the crate to make your dog transport safer in case of emergency breaking.

Pack all your dog’s necessities

Your dog is going to need a few things during the travel such as food, treats, toys and much more. Therefore, ensure that you prepare well for him to avoid added costs. For instance, you may need a non-spill water carrier and a bone to keep your furry friend when on a long distance travel. Carry as many things that your dog can familiarize with to comfort and relax him.

Prepare for miscellaneous costs

Traveling with your dog us not definitely cheap. This may, however, be determined by the form and level of transport including by plane, train or car. You need to budget your trip to ensure that there’s enough for you and your dog. If there isn’t enough, he should stay back for a special week with Grandma and Grandpa.

Travelling By Car

Traveling With Your Dog

Most dogs enjoy car rides and taking them with you is one of the best fun activities you can offer them. However, traveling with your dog is more than just loading the pet in the back seat of the car, However, you need to keep your dog safe yet more pleasurable using these tips:

Crate your dog

It’s vital to keep your pet safety first by ensuring that you keep him in a well-ventilated crate or carrier. The reason why crating is a good idea is because you’ll be less distracted which will be safer for both of you.

It will also ensure that your dog don’t become a projectile if you have to stop fast; this reduces chances of injury for both of you.

Since you are going to use the crate for the whole trip with your feline friend, it’s important to remember to select the right crate size. It needs to be aluminum or plastic because these two are sturdy and durable.

Your best friend has to be comfortable in the crate for all the seasons which is why you need a crate that has been produced with strict guidelines: look for crates from reputable brands. There’s need for crash bags inside the crate in case of emergency braking.

Never leave your dog in the car alone

Never leave your dog in the car alone

While you may think leaving your pooch inside the car is safe, it may be a bad idea. The temperature inside a car may rise to uncomfortable levels in seconds especially on warm summer days.

If the ambient temperature is 25℃, the temperature inside your car may reach up to 70℃. This may lead to heatstroke or death in no time. Never cook your dog.

Opening your window a few inches may not make a huge difference with the right thing to do being to walk with them on their leash outside.

Make sure all your dog’s tags are on

Your dog needs a microchip for identification with tags on his collar.

Imprinted tags with your home address, your cell phone number, destination phone number and any other information you find relevant. This will sure help you if your pet gets lost.

Don’t feed them two hours before trip

It goes without saying that this is not a cruel idea but dogs feel better without being full on trips. Giving your dog too much food before the trip may make him uncomfortable and sick.

In fact, you need to exercise them for several hours before you depart as that will keep them tired and sleepy for the ride. As said earlier, a dog will rarely mess up in the crate with the only option being to hold it for hours until the ride is over. Therefore, there’s no need to keep him full during the ride.

Flying with your dog

Flying with your dog

The first thing you have to check with the airline is the rules regarding pet travel. Most of them will require a health certificate from a certified vet but there are many other requirements, some of which you haven’t thought of.

One thing you are sure, however, is that your dog needs to be in a crate as it will probably make everyone’s’ lives easier

Book Early

Most airlines will allow just one or two dogs for a flight and so it’s important to book your dog’s seat as early as possible. It’s a wise idea that you confirm the availability of your dog’s seat before paying for it.

Book a direct flight

A direct, non-stop flight is less hectic. It’s therefore important to fly on a weekday when airports are less busy and if your pet is traveling in a cargo hold, it’s best to start the flight in the morning or evening in summer and midday during winter to avoid extreme weather conditions.

There are three ways to transport your dog on a plane depending on their body size: in cabin, checked baggage or by manifest cargo.

In-cabin for small dogs

In-cabin for small dogs

First, make sure that your pooch fits under the seat comfortably. It’s important to note that airlines have very strict regulations when it comes to dog sizes and carriers. They must confirm that your pet fits under the seat comfortably. If your dog is 15 pounds or less, the airplane will manage it to sit underneath the seat.

The need not to feed your pet 3 hours before the flight cannot be emphasized enough. This prevents sickness and discomfort that may come when your dog is too full for the flight.

Cargo Hold for large breeds

Most people don’t like flying with their dog on cargo hold, thanks to the serious incidences that have happened to some pets before. However, you can maximize your pet’s safety in the airplanes cargo hold with these tips.

Travel during spring and fall – You should avoid booking airline cargo travel with your dog during days with extreme temperatures. The danger to your pet is minimal when they are in the air, it’s before or during storing, loading and taxing. This is to keep your dog safe. You should also fly midweek when airline employees are less busy.

Choose good equipment

This is much about the crate you choose for your dog. The crate needs to have adequate ventilation, spring locked door, waterproof bottom, disabled wheels and no handles (for small crates)

This is important for your pet’s comfort which should never be compromised. Use a metal hardware instead of plastic fasteners to secure both halves of the dog’s crate. Remember to cable tie the door and crate corners to add extra protection to your pet. Your dog needs hydration during the flight and adding a bowl of water is vital.

Tranquilizing your pet

Tranquilizing your pet can be extremely dangerous. Most airlines will disallow such pets because tranquilized pets are prone to breathing problems during flights. If you feel that your pet needs to be tranquilized, you need to talk to your vet.

By Train (in Europe and UK)

By Train with dog

It can be too pricey and difficult to transport dogs and other pets by air but a commonly asked question is, Can you travel with your dog between the UK and Europe?

Yes. While most trains will not allow dogs to use this comfortable overland option, there are still many options for civilized enjoyable train travel between Europe and UK with your best friend.

Get pet passport and vaccinations

Before the flight, you need to ensure that your dog complies with the necessary rules and regulations of the train travel scheme. There is the need for a microchip, a passport and all the necessary vaccinations from a certified vet.

You need to be confident that you can control your pet’s behavior in a train. Train carriages are extremely busy and crowded with a lot of people moving quickly which is why you need to think how your pet will behave.

As usual, avoid feeding your pet 3 hours prior to the journey to avoid travel sickness.

When you reach your destination, observe caution when stepping off the train and remember to lift them over the gap between the train and platform because they may be nervous or hesitant.

Find a dog-friendly hotel

Good dogs make fantastic hotel guests. However, you need to know what a dog-friendly hotel is, for you doggy companion. Here are a few tips to help you find a dog-friendly hotel in your next travel.

– Know whether the hotel accepts pets by checking on the hotel’s webpage.

– Know the fee to avoid surprises when the bill comes

– Be honest about your pet size as most hotels will allow pets to a certain size.

– Know whether the pets can be left alone as most hotels will be left unattended or might want the dog to be crated. Others will allow pets to be left alone.

– Know the type of rooms that are required. Most hotels will require guests with pets to reside only in smoking rooms or rooms on lower grounds. Be sure to check all these requirements.

Inside the hotel:

– Avoid leaving your dog alone in your room as that will invite serious troubles. Nervous dogs will tear apart carpets and drapes or even injure themselves. They may also be noisy sometimes.

– Carry a blanket from home for the night to keep your dog comfortable. Most dogs will be hesitant to jump on the hotel bed.

– Avoid washing your dog in the hotel tub as this can be overly yucky.

Why Does the Dog Need High Calorie Dog Food?

A dog could be underweight for a variety of reasons:

Fussy Eaters – Some dogs are fussy eaters and do not like the food you are feeding them. If this is the reason your dog is underweight, then you will need to try different brands, or recipes, until you find one that appeals to your four-legged friend. It is important to not only find something your dog likes, but also to make sure they are getting high quality dog food that contains all the essential nutrients.

Excessive Exercise – Some dogs loose too much weight because they are highly active, but are not fed enough calories  to support their energy levels and maintain an ideal weight.

Health Issues – Health issues can also cause your dog weight loss, including gastrointestinal problems, cancer, internal parasites, and dental problems, to name a few. Some dogs can even suffer from anxiety problems, causing a disinterest in food.

Age Issues – Dogs that are at the threshold of becoming seniors may also start to lose weight and muscle tone. When that are at this stage of life, they can benefit from an increase in both protein and calories.

If you have a dog that needs to gain weight, there are many good dog food formulas that are high in calories. Before choosing best dog food for weight gain , it is a good idea to have your veterinarian check your dog to make sure there are not any health issues that are keeping them from gaining weight. If they receive a clean bill of health, your veterinarian can help you decide on a nutritional dog treats plan that will help your dog increase their muscle and body mass.

Recommendations for Gaining Weight on a Skinny, Underweight Dog

Speak to Your Veterinarian

Speak to Your Veterinarian about high calorie dog treat recipe

If you can visibly see your dog’s ribs, spine and pelvic bones with no evidence of fat, it is highly recommended to have a consultation with your pet’s veterinarian before making any changes to their diet.

Your veterinarian will perform a complete physical exam to rule out any diseases, or health issues that may be affecting your pet’s weight.

If here are no underlying health problems, your veterinarian will recommend an adequate and nutritious diet to help your dog gain weight. They will also be able to tell you the weight that is ideal weight for your pet.

Weigh Your Dog

weight your dog to choose high calorie puppy food

Weigh your dog at the end of each week to see if they have gained any weight. This allows you to chart any gains, losses, or, weight maintenance over a period of time. You should also record this in your journal.

Create a  Daily Record

A great way to help both you and your dog is to keep a journal of their daily meals and treats. It is also a good idea to keep a record of the amount of exercise your dog receives each day.

With everything recorded in the journal,  you can make a more accurate decision about whether, or not, you need to increase, or decrease their exercise, or food intake.

Exercise is Helpful

best dog food to gain weight and muscle

Exercise is a great way to increase your dog’s appetite. Often increasing activity is a way to get a dog to lose weight, however, if you feed your pet higher calorie foods and larger serving sizes, the opposite result will occur.

Exercise will also help your dog build muscle and add bulk to their thin frames. Just be careful when increasing their activity levels. If you proceed with too much, and too fast, your dog can become tired and sore, which will make them become lethargic and disinterested in participating in the activity.

Feed Small Food Often

how to put weight on a dog safely

A great way to help your dog gain weight is by feeding them three, or four small meals a day, instead of  one, or two larger meals. Follow the feeding guidelines on the package, then divide up your pet’s daily feeding amount into small meals that are fed throughout the day. With smaller meals, your dog will be able to better digest their food and metabolize the nutritional benefits.

Your veterinarian may suggest feeding more than the recommended amount on the package until your dog reaches a healthy weight. You can slowly increase the amount of food you feed, by gradually adding just a small amount to each of their smaller meals.

Once your dog has reached their ideal weight, cut back to the feeding amount recommended for weight maintenance. However, if you notice that they are starting to lose weight again, then either reduce their activity levels, or increase their serving size.

If your dog in underweight because they are a picky eater, then you may have to try a few weight gain dog food formulas before your fussy friend will be satisfied.

List of 4 High Calorie Dog Foods to Gain Weight

After your veterinarian confirms that your dog’s low weight is not due to a medical problem, you can begin to help your dog achieve a healthy weight.

Start by adding more calories to their diet. The best formulas of dog food to gain weight contain high levels of calories and protein and should check calories in dry or wet dog food. Do not increase their calorie level too quickly, as this may cause digestive upsets that may include vomiting, or diarrhea. Also, adding too much fat could cause digestive issues, including inflammation of the pancreas and putting weight on a dog with sensitive stomach.

Helping a healthy, but thin dog gain weight requires creating an eating program that focuses on increasing your dog’s nutrition, rather than simply adding calories. The best food for your dog should include meats, eggs, vegetables, and fruits. It is best to avoid cereal grains, by products and meat meals in the recipes.

If your dog is still hungry after their meal, you can always increase their serving size.

Conclusion

Remember that the first step in getting your dog to gain weight is to identify the reason your dog is thin. Make sure that there are not any health issues that are causing your pet to lose weight.

Ask your dog’s veterinarian what their ideal weight should be, and the amount of food you should be feeding your pet.

Do not increase their calorie intake all at once. Gradual changes are recommended, otherwise they may experience gastrointestinal upset. Maybe it is best choice for you to consider high calorie dog food supplement or gel.

Keep a journal of the quantity of food they eat and the amount of exercise they get every day. Also, maintain a record of any changes in weight on a weekly basis. Then, you will choose the best dog food to gain weight and muscle.  Perhaps you do homemade high calorie dog food recipes by yourself.

It may take a while to see any noticeable changes, but with patience and persistence your dog will eventually no longer be your skinny canine friend.

Origin and History of Beagle Pitbull Mix

Beagle Pit

It may surprise you to learn that the Beagle’s history is quite a mystery with only just very little details about the hybrid’s origin documented. It is argued that the breed is quite young and was probably created in the United States in the past couple of decades.

The reason behind the breeds notable popularity and praise within the last 20 to 30 years. It is now being bred deliberately. To understand the history in a clear perspective, we should perhaps look closely at the two parents: the beagle and the American pit bull terrier.

Beagle, Doggy, Puppy Pet

The beagle’s history is another uncertain story although the beagle-like dogs are all reported as far as Roman times. The beagle we know, today was not the exact beagle in the times. The ancient beagles were known hunters until the foxhounds came and beat them in popularity. The farmers, however, kept this breed (the beagle) as working dogs until it was imported to the United States in the 1800s and was bred to a much smaller dog.

In fact, people who were present in the 1940s and 50s will tell you that these were the most popular dogs. Today, most people still love the beagle for being funny and sweet although it may at times be naughty! But just like your child, train him to be good since childhood and remember to give them enough food and treats to bribe them into being disciplined.

American pit bull terrier

The American Pitbull Terrier, on the other hand, is a physical dog that was first created in England in the 1800s to be used in bear and bullfighting which was once a popular sport(just like football today). Yes, but that was made illegal since the dogs were too aggressive on each other. However, the dogs could still be trained not to bite their owners and owners would feel very safe around them.

As time proceeded, they became popular again as physical and protective dogs but with a gentler side towards people. That still carries on today. Immigrants brought them to America where they were made even a larger dog breed which is now called American pit bull terrier; alert but very sweet with people.

Temperament

Can we tell how the beagle bulldog may react to different situations? Well, while we know that the breed is a mix of the beagle and the American pit bull terrier, we cannot precisely tell which side the beagle bull leans. But we know that she is sociable and friendly of her family. She is extremely energetic and loves being active. If not given a way to release it all, she may turn challenging to cope with whatsoever.

She has a lot of endurance and boasts a very steady disposition but can be very affectionate and cheerful if tickled to. She is however stubborn and naughty at times, but discipline is the first principle when it comes to dogs especially!

How Does a Beagle Bull Looks Like?

Talking of height, the beagle bull can grow up to 18-20 inches. A healthy beagle should weigh somewhere between 30 to 40 pounds, making him a great looking medium sized dog. As a puppy, the dog may show a few skin wrinkles, feet like beagles the parent, cute brown eyes, and jumpy floppy ears.

Her coat is fairly short with a range of solid colors. The most noticeable is the white belly on a light brown coat and coarse hair in some parts of the coat.

How Much Should You Exercise Her?

How Much Should You Exercise Beagle

Because she has a lot of energy, there are a lot of needs when it comes to stimulation and exercise. If you cannot have two short walks, then you may need to prepare for a long one; you may also want to offer him some play time.

Just like her parent, the terrier, the beagle bull may run off the nose if you fail to have her on the leash. You may get her some yard that’s well -fenced or else she may dig herself out. The essence of depriving him some of the excess energy is because too much of it may make her aggressive and boisterous. Teach him to play tug of war, let her visit the dog park and other difficult activities.

Is It Easy to Train Her?

As you can expect from his aggressive demeanor characterized by courage and bravery, the bulldog can be harder to offer training than with most other dogs despite his decent intelligence.

Unlike other dogs, the beagle bulldog mix is rarely either shy to new faces or submissive to your new guys.

The good thing, however, is he doesn’t take it to the level that may pose a threat to anyone. But while she can be stubborn and willful, a gentle but commanding owner can easily establish themselves as the pack leader in a firm.

You need to be consistent and be sure to use treats as a beagle mix can even jump in front of a grenade for you if you can only reward her with food. Such motivation in training is what will bring you the best out of her, and you may be surprised to realize what a great companion you have grown up with.

Above all, it goes without saying that as long as the Beagle Pit-bull Mix is treated in the right way, it is the most impressive dog I know.

It’s noteworthy to learn that the need to offer this dog a proper socialization is to get rid of some of the traits of the pit bull parent that makes the hybrid dog a bit hostile with strangers as it tries to guard its territories. Do not worry about this breed due to its hostility character as a proper training has proved effective with the past careful owners.

A good basic training will determine how he deals with your kids, other pets that come into her vicinity and in many different situations.

Be warned that a poorly trained bulldog can be extremely aggressive and a danger to you as well.

Health

American pit bull terrier

The beagle lives for about 12 to 15 years, and the terrier lives for around a decade. From that we can learn that the average lifespan of a beagle mix is around 10-15 years, right? Precisely, the hybrid dog is a healthier breed than the parents.

However, like a normal dog, the beagle bulldog may develop some health problems either due parents or lifestyle.

Some potential health problems common with the Pitbull Beagle Mix include:

  • Dental problems
  • Allergies
  • Elbow dysplasia
  • Hip Dysplasia
  • Heart Disease
  • Eye Problem
  • Parvo virus

It is therefore extremely important to observe regular checks with your pet to ensure that she gets all the required vaccinations and veterinary care. If you notice any health changes with your dog, seek immediate vet care before the problem persists.

The beagle pit is prone to parvo virus which can be deadly. It’s therefore important to visit your vet to know how to prevent the virus.

Another important thing you should always remember is that a beaglebull puppy has a lot of appetite for food and is even considered the most gluttonous. This is a common character for even adult dogs too, which is why you need a well-planned out diet. Avoid fatty treats and foods for them.

Beagle Bull Grooming

The beagle bull boasts a nice looking coat that requires just a bit of brushing to maintain its usual excellent shape and shiny look. By this, it means that even brushing it once a week is enough to give you an image of a careful pet keeper. However, you need a high-quality brush to avoid damaging the coat.

Today, some people prefer frequent baths for their four-legged animal friends, and if you’re among them, then you’re lucky as they may need more of them.

The beagle pit has a sensitive skin which requires regular baths, but you need not overdo it. One or two baths in a month are enough with the dog breed.

Another thing that sounds trivial yet very important to remember is ,never leave your beagle mix wet after cleaning her. The presence of moisture especially in and around the ears may result in painful ear infections that may keep your pet dull.

You also need to observe enough dental care by brushing her teeth twice or even thrice in a week. This will ensure she does not develop health issues which is a common issue with beagle bulls.

Is it a Watchdog?

If we termed the beagle pitbull mix as the greatest watchdog that would probably be flatter because a stranger can easily get on their good side at times.
However, if you’re lucky to get a beagle bull that has more of its pit bull parent than that of their beagle parent; the dog may be a bit more protective towards strangers. It will try to protect its family members no matter what it has to face.

Barking

If anything unclear is going on around you, the beagle mix can bark excessively even for no reason. What sets him above other breeds is its unique voice which almost sounds like howling which can be seen in her beagle parent.

Pitbull Beagle Mix with Children and Other Pets

Despite the beagle bull being a great family dog, you need to train her to control his natural tendency of viewing other animals as prey. Train them to love children, but the children must learn how to play without hurting the dog. But they may be naughty together if they bond too much.

Remember that for you to perfectly bond with the beagle bull; you need to spend a lot of time with them in the day as the feeling of isolation is unhealthy for every dog.

Pit Bull Beagle Mix Living Conditions

As a medium-sized dog, it could be great with your kids as it will rarely know them off during playing time as other gigantic dogs. It’s, therefore, a wise idea to warn your kids about other dogs that come home unless you are sure that they know how to play with kids.

Wrap Up

Are you considering chances of adopting a beagle bull? You shouldn’t be stopped by his aggressive character as a proper training may make her the most obedient, sweetest and the most docile family member you can ever wish for.

Is there anything harder than choosing a perfect family dog? Here, you want a dog that will give you company for a long time but again, you do not want the pet to be a bother at some points. Therefore, the smart choice is to go for a dog that does not need too much maintenance.

What Does “Low Maintenance Dogs” Mean?

A low maintenance dog won’t be the kind that leaves hair everywhere. Have you ever visited a place that has a dog and was covered by dog fur? Well, probably they had a better breed, but there are some that explode fur every time.

On the other hand, keeping some dogs will have you exercise the pet up to 3 times a day, just to keep them fit (perhaps you too). You need a dog that needs just moderate exercise to stay physically and mentally fit. A low maintenance dog needs some ball throwing or a single walk a day.

Finally, the best low maintenance dogs are smart in training. They are capable of learning new skills swiftly.

Top 15 Low Maintenance Dog Breeds List

Are you looking for a low maintenance dog? Here’s a list of top 15 low maintenance dogs and their characteristics:

  1. Chihuahua

However, if long-haired, they may need a bit more brushing to prevent tangles. You also need to be cautious with Chihuahua attitude as they may boss everyone around if not trained properly. They are a perfect low maintenance breed whatsoever.

  1. Dachshund

  1. French Bulldog

Need a perfect loafing companion? The gleeful frenchie is one of the most cheerful of all dog breeds. They are muscular with 20-30 pounds. But despite being muscular, they need moderate exercise daily thanks to their lack of endurance.

They are easily trainable and observe good behavior if offered a good basic structure. You don’t need to worry about grooming as they require just minimal grooming needs. However, you should beware of potential health concerns such as skin issues.

  1. Pug

The racing dogs are very responsive to training and have overall good health.

  1. Bullmastiff

The Bullmastiff is a large active dog that weighs around 100-130 pounds. The Bullmastiff is healthy with no serious health concerns. They have a lifespan of around 12-15 years and have excellent energy and moderate endurance. The breed requires daily walks to keep them fit. They require just the couch for space as they are all about the couch.

  1. Jack Russell Terrier

    Jack Russell Terrier
    Jack Russell Terrier

Initially a fox hunting breed, the little Jack Russell terrier is an entertaining breed that’s highly trainable. With a lifespan of not 13-16 years, the little dog grows up to about 18 pounds and needs enough exercise to keep them busy. They are easy to train and are good with kids. They are considered generally healthy.

  1. Bulldog

    Bulldog
    Bulldog

Weighing around 49-55 pounds, the bulldog is quite comfortable in small spaces. Underneath their frowning face, they are incredibly lovable and trainable and won’t require much exercise with a short walk on a cool evening considered enough. Bulldogs are however prone to heat-related collapse unless you have an air-conditioned environment.

  1. Bichon Frise

    Bichon Frise

Despite being a low maintenance dog, the little white fluffball is a great companion.

They are very easy to train due to their curious demeanor, but may need regular exercise to keep them happy.

They are well mannered but may need some grooming.

Becasue they live for about 15 years and are generally a healthy breed with no major health concerns. You will, however, need to wipe their eyes regularly to keep their face clean.

  1. Puggle

    Puggle
    Puggle

Also known as the designer dog, the puggle is a crossbreed of pug and beagle. The excellent house pet is small and only needs a small space to fit in the house. Their incredible demeanor of being eager to please the owner makes them easy to train and gets along well with almost everyone.

They need occasional walks as they have little energy to work off.

They shed quite a bit and may need moderate grooming especially in the spring.

However, they are  more susceptible to heat stroke due to their shorter nasal cavity.

Conclusion

Now you know the easiest dogs to care for but remember that our list is not all-inclusive. Therefore, if you have a specific dog breed in mind, it’s a wise idea to check their requirements. Which is your favorite low maintenance dog?

Is there anything as lovely as watching your roly-poly puppy asleep on the couch? Of course not. But the latest thing that has probably come to your notice is that it seems the puppy breathing fast erratically or in a funky manner especially when asleep. And that might be a mind-boggling phenomenon, isn’t it?

But is there something to wash over your day to day attention for Puppy Breathing Fast

Difference Between Tachypnea,Dyspnea and Painting

Puppy Breathing Fast

To understand better, it’s crucial that we learn the difference between Tachypnea, Dyspnea, and panting.

Tachypnea is a medical term used to describe abnormal rapid breathing in puppies and dogs and is considered nothing to worry about unless it relates to other symptoms. Tachypnea is characterized by a rate of breathing higher than normal, but most the puppy will have their mouth closed.

Dyspnea or labored breathing is a bit serious, and when it happens, an immediate vet consultation is a wise idea as it could be a sign of a serious ailment.

Panting is normal for dogs as they cannot sweat like humans and the only sweat glands they have are on their foot pads. Panting is common when the weather is hot or after physical activity. It shouldn’t be confused with tachypnea.

Sleeping puppy weird breathing, is this normal?

What could be the causes of Puppy Breathing Fast?

What could be the causes of Puppy Breathing Fast (1)

  1. Illness

There is a list of medical conditions associated with fast breathing in puppies. Respiratory and non-respiratory diseases such as asthma, heartworms, anemia and heart disease can result in respiratory distress.

The inflammation of the abdomen is also a medical reason for fast breathing, and this may need immediate attention.
Additionally, puppy suffering from fever or pain is prone to fast breathing.

Signs of fast breathing as a result of an illness include:

  • – Movement of the chest and belly when breathing
  • – Nostrils may flare open when breathing
  • -Noisy and rough breathing
  • – Abnormal resting positions such as elbow sticking out from the body.
  • – The head and neck are extended
  1. Fear and stress

Puppies can at times get emotionally worked up when exposed to situations they are not comfortable with.

For instance, traveling with your puppy while they are inside a crate may cause rapid breathing until you have reached your destination. In this case, you should consider training them to adjust to riding in the car and starting slow and offering rewards and tasty treats.

  1. Dreaming

Yes, you read right. Puppies usually dream a lot more than adult dogs.

In fact, they can even bark, whine, growl and move in their sleep. The brain waves at this time are very fast and irregular, and the mental activity may accelerate resulting in rapid breathing.

Therefore, sleep is considered as a good exercise for puppies as it trains the respiratory system and is crucial for development.

  1. Heat

Your puppy could be really hot after an exercise or when the surrounding temperatures are too high. The only way to cool down is to breath fast while the mouth is open (panting). You need to offer them fresh cold water for cooling.

Adult Dog Asleep Vs. Puppy Asleep

An adult dog breathes much more different from a puppy while asleep. Grown up dogs are usually quiet and very calm while asleep but may sometimes be accompanied by snores and twitches but it’s usually without sounds.

For a puppy, the sleep is more active as they like moving, twitching as if the whole body is participating in the dreams.

Should You be Worried about Puppy Breathing Fast?Should you be worried about puppy breathing fast

On most situations, a puppy breathing fast isn’t anything to be worried about. However, if you’re suspecting something wrong, you need to watch these signs:

  • -Not eating and drinking
  • -Signs of rapid breathing when awake for no significant reason
  • – Fatigue and lethargy
  • -Being dull and not playing as usual
  • – Sleeping more and lying down anywhere even after a short exercise
  • – Issues with growth. You can tell this by checking whether he’s developing and gaining weight like other puppies of his age
  • – A chronic cough especially in the morning and when he’s lying down

If you notice your puppy breathing fast with these symptoms on top, you need to consult a vet immediately to confirm everything is well. However, you should not be worried if the puppy is breathing fast only when asleep.

Treatment of Tachypnea in Puppies

Adult dog versus Puppy asleep (1)

The method of treatment in case of fast breathing will depend on the underlying cause.

If rapid breathing occurs when the puppy is asleep, you need not to worry about anything. If stressed or
scared, you need to calm him down and try to train him on how to deal with stressors.

For any respiratory concerns, you should immediately pay a visit to a vet to avoid serious consequences such as death.

Conclusion

Has your puppy been breathing fast occasionally? It’s okay for you to think that something is wrong with him, but there’s a higher chance that he’s completely normal.

However, if you notice anything out of the ordinary for your puppy, you need to schedule a checkup with the vet.

australian-shepherd dogThe Australian Shepherd Husky mix is a hybrid cross between the Australian Shepherd and the Siberian Husky breeds.

Because these dogs are hybrids, the breeding is unpredictable and there are no guarantees.

The Australian Shepherd Husky mix are medium-sized dogs. However, the colouring and characteristics of these dogs mostly depends on the dominant gene pool of the parent breeds.

Australian Shepherd Husky Mix History

Because the Australian Shepherd Husky mix is a hybrid breed, there is not a lot of information about their history. The only way to gain insight into these designer dogs is by looking at the ancestry of the parent breeds.

The Siberian Husky:

Siberian Husky
Siberian Husky

The Siberian Husky sometimes referred to as Chukcha, Chuksha, Husky, or Sibe. It is a medium size working dog breed that originated in northeastern Siberia, Russia.

The breed belongs to the Spitz genetic family and were originally bred to be sled dogs. The nomadic Chukchi people of northeastern Siberia used medium-sized working dogs to pull their sleds and herd reindeer. In their isolated region, with no other dogs to crossbreed, the Chukchis mated the best of their dogs to each other and maintained the breed over 3,000 years.

Noted for their ability to pull light loads over great distances at moderate speeds, the breed caught the attention of a fur trader and explorer by the name of William Goosak, who introduced the first of the breed to Nome, Alaska, during the “Nome Gold Rush,” to be used as sled dogs.

The Australian Shepherd:

Austuralian Shepherd
Austuralian Shepherd

The Australian Shepherd otherwise simply known as “Aussie” has a rather obscure lineage and history. For this reason, their name is a bit misleading.

Prior to their present name, the Australian Shepherd was also called a Spanish Shepherd, Pastor Dog, Bob-Tail, New Mexican Shepherd, and California Shepherd.

Despite their present name, the breed we know today probably originated from the Basque region in Spain, where they were used by shepherds. It is believed that these shepherds emigrated with their dogs to the West Coast of the United States, by first crossing over Australia in the 1800s.

Although no one knows for certain whether all the information is accurate, most people agree that the breed arrived in western North America, somewhere between the nineteenth and early twentieth century.

Because this breed was originally associated with the Basque shepherds who came to America by way of Australia, they were given the name of Australian Shepherd.

The Australian Shepherd Husky Mix

Australian Shepherd Husky Mix has many genetic traits from both lineages.

  • The Siberian Husky side of the family is seen in their great love for the outdoors, and their strength and agility.
  • The Australian Shepherd lineage is where their determination and guarding instincts evolved.

Both parents are known to have thick coats and are highly intelligent and energetic. Therefore, a lot of brushing, exercise and discipline is required if you decide to share your home with one of these loyal and beautiful dogs.

Australian Shepherd Husky Mix Appearance

Australian Shepherd Husky Mix Appearance
Australian Shepherd Husky Mix

An Australian Shepherd Husky mix dog can inherit the appearance of either of the parent breeds, or a combination of both. Because they are designer dogs, a litter of puppies can have a variety of coat colours, facial features, and personalities.

The only guarantee is that the puppies will be so adorable, you will want to adopt them all.

Australian Shepherd Husky Mix Temperament

By nature, the Australian Shepherd Husky mix is friendly and affectionate towards their family members, but may come across as aloof to strangers.

These dogs require early socialization and need to be exposed to new people and other dogs from an early age. Early socialization ensures your puppy grows into a friendly well-behaved dog. Frequent walks in the local dog park, or enrolling them in agility classes, are great ways to introduce them to people and other animals.

The American Shepherd Husky mix has an overall friendly and welcoming demeanour if trained properly. They are also known to be very protective of their family and home.

Although they are easy to train, this breed does have a tendency to get bored. Therefore, they require lots of attention, exercise and mental stimulation.
If you want a dog with a happy and friendly disposition, it is not advisable to leave them alone for too many hours at a time. Giving them plenty of exercise and playtime will avoid many of the behavioural problems that can occur if they are left on their own for too long.

Australian Shepherd Husky Mix Health

While the Australian Shepherd Husky mix is generally a healthy breed, it is susceptible to a few illnesses.

Here are some of the possible health problems that may occur:

  • Deafness
  • Elbow dysplasia
  • Hip dysplasia
  • Epilepsy
  • Progressive Retinal Atrophy
  • Allergies
Many health problems can be avoided if you adopt your new friend from a reputable breeder, who screens their breeding dogs for genetic diseases and only chooses the healthiest of dogs to reproduce.

A reliable breeder will let you know about any genetic health problems that may occur. Also, ask for documentation that your new puppy has been checked by a veterinarian and are up to date on any necessary vaccinations.

Feeding an Australian Shepherd Husky Mix

This breed is prone to hip and elbow dysplasia. It is a good idea to add fish oil to their diet and make sure they do not become overweight. Extra weight puts too much strain on their bones, which can exacerbate the likelihood of  them developing health problems.

There are many brands of dog food on the market. Some are breed specific and others are formulated for the different life stages of your pet.

If you need high calorie dog food to support their high-active exercises outside, please click the links as below for details.

You should make an appointment with your dog’s veterinarian. And you discuss a suitable diet and the amount of food to feed your dog with Vet. They will offer you suggestions based on the age, weight and health of your four-legged friend.

Australian Shepherd Husky Mix Grooming and Care

Because the Australian Shepherd Husky mix has medium length fur with a thick undercoat, they need frequent brushing. No matter how much you groom them, they will still shed a lot. Therefore, you can expect to be vacuuming your home on a regular basis.

Although they shed their fur all year long, it is especially prominent in the early spring when they are shedding their winter coat.

For a healthy and shiny coat, brush your dog’s fur daily, or, at the very least twice a week. More frequent brushing is required during the springtime if you want to avoid matting. Besides a regular slicker brush, you will also need an undercoat rake to remove the excess fur from their undercoat.

The Australian Shepherd Mix only needs to be given a bath when they are really dirty.

Frequent baths are not necessary and will dry out their skin, but it is necessary to trim their nails on a regular basis.

Australian Shepherd Husky Mix Living Conditions

Although an Australian Shepherd Husky mix dog can live in an apartment, they need plenty of outdoor activity. If you do not have a backyard, then you will have to take your dog out for very long walks a few times a day. A nice long hike in the great outdoors will help to minimize their energy levels, and make them more agreeable to lounging around the apartment when you get home.

If you live in a home with a backyard, it is an added benefit for both you and your pet, however, you will need a very high and sturdy fence that is buried a couple of feet into the ground.

Australian Shepherd Huskies put the famous escape artist, Harry Houdini, to shame. These dogs are master escape artists and will try to find a way, whether digging an underground tunnel, or jumping leaps and bounds to get over a fence, to escape.

It does not mean they do not love their home and family, but their intense curiosity and love of freedom is enough to encourage them to see if the “grass is greener” on the other side of the fence.

Australian Shepherd Husky Mix Exercise

Australian Shepherd Husky Mix Exercise

The Australian Shepherd Husky mix is not a suitable breed for a novice guardian, or someone who is not energetic.

These dogs need plenty of physical activity and mental stimulation. They love the outdoors anytime of year.

Their undercoat protects them from both hot and cold temperatures, therefore, they will want to frolic in the snow, or, chase the sunbeams in hot summer weather.

  • To keep them happy and in good spirits, you will have to be a person who loves the outdoors and does not mind long walks, or jogging, in all kinds of weather.
  • If you do not give them access to burn off their high energy and explore new sights, your Australian Shepherd Husky will become bored, destructive and quite possibly, aggressive.

Training an Australian Shepherd Husky Mix

Australian Shepherd Husky mix dogs are quite easy to train, providing they understand that you are the one in charge.

They also need to be trained from an early age, otherwise, they can grow up to be very stubborn dogs, who will refuse to listen to you because they are tired, or just do not feel like obeying any commands.

These highly intelligent dogs will be more susceptible to listening to you, if  you train them where they are the happiest, which is the great outdoors.

Average Height/Average Weight/Average Lifespan

An Australian Shepherd Husky mix is considered to be a medium sized dog. Because they are hybrid dogs it is impossible to determine the exact height, weight and longevity of this bred.

By looking at the statistics for both of the parent breeds, you can get a close approximation of what to expect with an Australian Shepherd Husky mix.

Here is a breakdown of the three breeds:

Australian Shepherd Husky Mix Inforgraphic

Coat Appearance and Colours

Coat Appearance and Colours of Australian Shepherd Husky Mix

The Australian Shepherd Husky mix breed has a double-coated, weather resistant coat.

They can have either short, or medium length fur. Their overall body fur can be straight, or wavy, with short, straight and smooth fur on their head and ears.

The breed comes in a variety of colours ranging from red merle, tri colour (black, white and tan) blue merle. It is rare that these dogs are only one colour. White often dominates their chest area, stomach, legs and paws, while another colour covers the rest of their body.

Australian Shepherd Husky Mix and Children

The Australian Shepherd Husky mix is affectionate with children and makes a wonderful pet for the whole family.

It is important to remember that half of their lineage is descended from herding dogs. Therefore, they need to be taught not to chase and affectionately nip at peoples heels, especially young children.

Once they learn that people should not be herded like sheep, they will make a wonderful addition to your family.

Australian Shepherd Husky Mix and Other Dogs

An Australian Shepherd Husky mix is great with other dogs providing they are similar in size to them. They get easily intimidated by larger dogs and can become very antisocial. If you want to adopt a playmate for your dog that they will bond and frolic with, then do not get a larger sized dog.

You also need to make sure that your dog’s new friend is going to be as energetic and outgoing as your pet. Otherwise, your four-legged friend may find them boring and completely ignore them.

Australian Shepherd Husky Mix and Other Pets

The Australian Shepherd Husky mix breed cannot be trusted around small animals such as rabbits, hamsters and birds. Because of their hunting and prey instinct, they especially dislike cats. Therefore, if you have a feline at home, it is better to adopt a different breed of dog.

Conclusion

An Australian Shepherd Husky mix can make a wonderful addition to your family. If you have the energy and time required,  you properly look after this breed.

When you are making the decision whether, or not. When you want to adopt one of these dogs, you need to ask yourself these very important questions:

Do you have experience with high energy dogs?

Do you have the time to offer them adequate exercise, playtime and mental stimulation?

If you have a backyard, are you willing to invest in a very high fence that is dug deep into the ground, to prevent them from escaping?

If you live in an apartment, do you have the time to take them for long hikes on a daily basis, or enroll them in agility classes?

Do you have other animals at home? Remember, the Australian Shepherd Husky mix cannot be trusted not to hurt smaller animals and they especially dislike cats. They also do not get along with larger dogs.

After answering the above questions, you feel that an Australian Shepherd Husky mix will be a suitable family member. Then you will be adopting a very lively, playful and loyal companion.

Introduction of German Shepherd Pitbull Mix

The German Shepherd Pitbull mix are not purebred dogs. They are a hybrid cross between the German Shepherd dog and the American Pit Bull Terrier. Because they are mixed, there is not a lot of history about them, therefore, the best way to learn about this type of breed is to look at their parents’ ancestry.

As the name suggests, the German Shepherd breed originated in Germany. Captain Max von Stephanitz wanted a dog that could be used for military and police work. In 1899, he visited a dog show in Germany, where he met a dog called Hektor Linksrhein. Hektor was the result of numerous generations of very selective cross breeding. He was exactly what von Stephanitz felt was the perfect working dog. The dog’s strength, intelligence, loyalty and striking good looks, convinced him to purchase the dog. He changed the dog’s name to Horand von Grafrath, who was later declared to be the first German Shepherd.

The first Pit Bull Terriers were created in the early 1800s, by breeding Old English Terriers and Old English Bulldogs together, to produce a dog that combined the courage of the terrier with the strength and athleticism of the bulldog. They were bred as fighting dogs and were used for the sport of bear and bull baiting. Being that their sole purpose was to fight, they were bred to be powerful, courageous, and aggressive towards other animals, especially towards other dogs.

Later in the century, they were brought to America, where they were used as farm dogs. They would help hunt, guard and be a companion to their human caretakers. These dogs became the direct ancestors of the American Pit Bull Terrier.

The German Shepherd Pitbull mix is a result of breeders wanting to design a dog with the loyalty and intelligence of the German Shepherd and the agility and power of the Pit Bull.

It is important to realize that these designer hybrid dogs, which are being bred are not always fifty percent purebred American Pit Bull Terrier and fifty percent purebred German Shepherd. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses. There is no guarantee of the outcome with this breed. A litter of puppies can consist of many different looking dogs with a wide range of personalities.

Other Names for the German Shepherd Pitbull Mix

  • German Pit
  • Shepherd Pit
  • German Sheppit

Appearance and Characteristics

The German Shepherd Pitbull mix are generally large dogs, however, as previously noted, the breeding is unpredictable and there are no guarantees. The appearance and characteristics of the dogs mostly depends on  the dominant gene pool of the parent breeds.

The puppies of a cross between a German Shepherd and a American Pit Bull Terrier may adopt an appearance that looks like a German Shepherd, or a Pit Bull, or any combination of the two. They may inherit the total appearance of a single parent, or some part of each side.

Facial Appearance

The German Shepherd Pitbull mix is more likely to have a broad face and short muzzle like a Pit Bull, rather than have the facial appearance of a German Shepherd.

Coat

Their coat can either be short like the Pit Bull, or they may have medium length, thick and dense fur like the German Shepherd. Common colours include gray, white, tan, fawn, or black.

Height, Weight and Lifespan

  • American Pitbull Terrier

Height:  19 inches tall at the shoulder

Weight:  35 to 65 pounds for an adult dog

Average Life Expectancy:  8 to 15 years

  • German Shepherd

Height:  22 to 26 inches tall at the shoulder

Weight:  66 to 95 pounds for an adult dog

Average Life Expectancy:  10 to 14 years

  • German Shepherd Pitbull Mix

Height:  17 to 24 inches tall at the shoulder

Weight:  60 to 90 pounds for an adult dog

Average Life Expectancy:  10 to 12 years

Temperament and Personality

Because the German Shepherd Pitbull mix is the offspring of two highly intelligent breeds, whose ancestors were trained for either military work, or for fighting purposes, their character can be stubborn and independent.

If they are trained from the time they are puppies, they can be the most loyal and sweetest dogs that you could ever meet. If a German Shepherd Pitbull dog is raised in a healthy environment, and properly trained and socialized, they can make a wonderful pet for the whole family to enjoy.

Just remember that although ethical breeders have bred out the aggressive fighting nature of the Pit Bull dog, the German Shepherd Pitbull mix still possesses the protective instincts of that half of their bloodline. Also, the German Shepherd half are also guard dogs, therefore the combination makes them very defensive of their family and property. If  any family member, or any property that the family owns is under threat, the German Shepherd Pitbull dog will defend them with their life.

Training

These are not dogs for novice owners. Because they are highly intelligent, as well as, very powerful dogs, they can easily try to dominate a less experienced individual.

If you have leadership qualities, knowledgeable about the breed and start training them as puppies, you will have a gentle, obedient and loving companion. However, if you do not take the time to train and exercise them properly, as well as, socialize them with other individuals from an early age, you can just as easily have a very aggressive and badly behaved dog.

Activity and Exercise

German Shepherd Pitbull dogs need plenty of exercise due to their high energy levels. They need at least an hour of rigourous excerise, as well as, a couple of long walks each day. Agility lessons would also benefit their health and temperament.

Behaviour

The German Shepherd Pit Bull mix is generally a good natured dog and friendly towards people.

Although they enjoy spending time with their guardians, they do not demand constant attention. They can easily entertain themselves, however, they do not like being left alone for extended lengths of time.

Behaviour With Children

German Shepherd Pitbulls crave attention and enjoy being around young children, therefore, they are an ideal family dog.

Behaviour With Other Pets

German Shepherd Pitbulls cannot be trusted around other animals, especially dogs. If you socialize them with other animals from a early age, they can become less aggressive, however, they are prone to try and dominate other animals. This can lead to dangerous situations, therefore, it is strongly advised never to leave them alone and unsupervised with other animals.

It is also advisable, that if you want to get a companion for your dog, that you adopt another pup of the same breed.

Living Conditions

The German Shepherd Pitbull mix needs frequent exercise, therefore, apartment living is definitely not recommended. They need a large fenced backyard to run and play, in order to release their high energy level and not become restless and aggressive.

Because they are protective of their environment, they have a tendency to bark a lot when they see strangers and other dogs. They are also considered to be high jumpers. It is advisable to have a high fence, where they can frolic safely and in privacy.

Care and Grooming

It is beneficial to frequently brush your dog’s fur. It not only prevents shedding, but also gets your dog used to being handled and promotes bonding between you and your four-legged companion.

Because they usually have floppy ears that does not permit a lot of air circulation, their ears should be regularly checked for infections and debris.

Feeding

The German Shepherd Pitbull mix is prone to skin irritation that is sometimes inherited from the Pit Bull side of the family. In order to help to prevent this problem, make sure their diet is low in grain and high in Omega fatty acids.

They are also prone to zinc-responsive dermatitis. It is important to make sure they are getting an adequate amount of zinc in their diet.

Also, always give them access to plenty of fresh clean water.

In order to make sure that your dog is receiving the proper nutrition, it is strongly advised to visit your dog’s veterinarian, who can recommend an adequate diet for their size, health and breed.

Possible Health Issues

Common ailments found in the German Shepherds Pitbull mix are:

  • Skin disease
  • Allergies
  • Hip Dysplasia
  • Bloating
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Heart disease

Make sure that you adopt your new family member from a reputable breeder, who will tell you if the dog’s parents have a clean bill of health.

Some Important Things You Should Know about a German Shepherd Pitbull Mix

  1. Because these dogs are stubborn, independent, powerful and highly intelligent, you need to be an experienced owner to handle this breed.
  2. They need a rigorous and dedicated trainer.
  3. They need a large high fenced backyard and plenty of exercise.
  4. They suffer from separation anxiety if left alone for extended periods of time.

Conclusion

In conclusion, a German Shepherd Pitbull mix is quite an unpredictable breed. Although this breed can be very sweet and good-natured, you need to remember that they are also very protective dogs, therefore, they should always be approached with caution.

They are known to be loyal and gentle dogs when bred responsibly and trained from an early age. They also require a lot of exercise if they are to maintain a happy disposition.

If you adopt a puppy from a reputable breeder and raise your German Shepherd Pitbull mix well, they will become your faithful companion and your most fearless protector.

Are White Pitbulls Rare?

Yes ! All-white pitbulls are hard to find.

The breeds that are most often used in the designation “pitbull type” contain breed standards that discourage white pitbulls. Also, the genetic basis for breeds meant in the designation of white pitbulls is associated with skin cancers, blindness, and deafness.

The History of White Pitbull

white pitbull

You may be surprised to learn that pitbulls are not one specific breed, but they are a classification of several breeds such as Staffordshire terriers, American bullies, American pit bull terriers and American bulldogs.

The dogs were initially bred from Old English bulldogs, a breed that became highly popular in the 1800s in a blood sport well known as bull baiting. After bloodsports were illegalized in 1835 in the UK, dogfighting became the new sport as that was easier to hide from police.

Bulldogs were crossed with terriers and then thrown into a “pit” to chase and kill rats or fight each other, that’s where pitbull type of dog originated.

White pitbulls are medium sized with a muscular and solid built. They are very powerful.

Size and weight

Pitbulls range from 18 to 24 inches at the shoulder and can have 35 to 60 pounds of weight. Females tend to appear smaller than males weighing anywhere between 35 to 50
pounds, and males may weight 40 to 60 pounds.

 Coat and Color

White pitbulls coat is glossy and lies close to the body and has a fairly harsh texture. All coat colors and patterns are generally permissible with no color signifying any superiority. Their eyes may range in colors such as brown, sable, chocolate, black, red, or even multicolor.

Tail and feet

Tails can appear long, crew like or bobbed. Feet are round while some may appear well-arched. They have healthy paw pads that are well cushioned with a tough texture.

White pitbull personality

The pitbulls are famous as fighting dogs, and even some people fear them. However, this depends on how you train them.

Well trained pit bulls in a loving and caring home become loving, loyal and clown dogs who make excellent companions. They love being a part of family activities and love being with familiar people.

While there’s some truth that pitbulls can be viscous, in the right hands, they are sweet hearts.

White Pitbull training

Training your white pitbull should begin early and should be done in a calm manner as pitbulls won’t respond to harsh tones. They need to be short training sessions because long sessions will get them uninterested.

You need to observe lots of patience and involve rewards to ensure success.

Young families with kids should socialize with pitbulls puppies at an early stage so that they can accept outside children and even guests.

Behavior of white pitbulls

Separation anxiety is not uncommon in pit bulls. Therefore, there’s need for enough exercise in the course of the day to keep them busy enough or they may become destructive.  They may become aggressive especially towards other dogs and cats, and even if they are raised along with them, you may not be guaranteed that they’ll forever coexist. They rarely start fights, but they know how to finish them.

Isolating them in never a good idea as they may not learn how to accept new situations and people. By isolating them, they may become wary and lead to problems later in adulthood. They are generally happy and easy going, but that will significantly depend with the breeder and trainer.

Exercise of white pitbull

Pitbulls are the happiest when kept active. You can take them for long walks and short runs to meet their daily activity requirements.

They may be destructive, when idle, and some even develop neurotic behavior of crazily chasing their own tail. Keeping them in apartments or condos is therefore not a wise idea.

White pitbull health

Pitbulls are a healthy breed with a good skeletal formation that lives on average 12 to 14years.

They may suffer from hip dysplasia which is as a result of poor weight management.

The breed is also susceptible to cataracts, i.e., the thickening of the eye lens. The canine may also develop various forms of heart diseases and also allergies.

Is white pitbull a good family dog?

Apart from their lovely appearance, white pit bulls are actually giant teddy bears when properly raised to care and respect humans.

The white pittbull is one of the most loving dogs, especially with small children.

They have a very high pain tolerance that makes them easy to abuses from kids who love to tap them, hug them tight and even pull their ears.

They are a great family pet, but there has to be proper training beginning from an early age.

They are also able to alert the family of any impending danger such as fire or intruders. For non-threatening strangers, they will often lick their faces upon arrival.

What’s the difference between white pitbulls and other pitbulls?

Basically, there’s nothing different other than color and patterns. However, you may want to know that:

White pitbulls are sensitive to direct sunlight especially for white pitbulls with red noses.

Therefore, it’s important that you limit your pitbull to direct sunlight, especially in a summer mid-day.

The other difference is obviously the price tag. As said earlier the color is rare which is why they tend to be sold at a higher price than other varieties.

Some important things you need to know regarding white pitbulls

They are very intelligent

Yes, if we are honest, we can admit that the goofy faces of white pitbulls are enough to make you believe that they are not smart.

However, they are highly intelligent and eager to please which is why you can teach them very easily.

They are not great watchdogs

White pitbulls may appear intimidating in their appearance, but when it comes to keeping their loved ones safe, they can be lousy.

An intruder may use a treat to pet the dog, and that’s a terrifying thought.

However, with good training, they can learn to bark at strangers until instructed to stop barking.

They are not dog friendly

White pitbulls is not a fan of other animals unless taught early on.

For this reason, you may not consider getting the dog if you have other animals in the house.

However, if you have to, simply teach your white pitbull puppy to tolerate and even get on with other animals.

Conclusion

If the information above convinced you that the white pitbull is your kind of dog, then you can go ahead and buy or get one.

After you get a pitbull, just remember that it’s now a part of your family.

Shower it with love and attention and remember to give them a proper training from the beginning.
